The Local Howlie
Rod Warren, our
founder & chief illustrator, actually began his drawing career
imitating Ed
"Big Daddy" Roth’s style in high school and has been drawing
cartoons and cars ever since then.
Growing up in California, he immersed him-
self in the
surfing scene,
bought all the Beach Boy records, and dreamed of going
to Hawaii
some day
to see the big surf. A few years later, he lived his dream when
he went
in the
Army and was stationed on Oahu, where he was known by the
Hawaiian
natives as "da local howlie"
on the volleyball courts. The name kind
of stuck, so he decided to use it for a
business name, hence Local Howlie.
Studying graphic
arts in college, he designed t-shirts on a freelance basis for
over 25 years and taught
classes in Cartooning for the past several years.
A highlight of
his drawing career was when he became an editorial cartoonist for
a daily
newspaper in
California for several years and had cartoons published in
“Best
Editorial
Cartoons of the Year” from 1991-1994.
Starting his own
t-shirt company has been a long time dream that finally came to
fruition in
2004 when he trademarked the name and got the ball rolling.

print a photo of your
car, an illustration (see the samples on our website at

do a cartoony "monsterized" version with you driving it. We can also do

car cards-with a photo of your car on one side and description on the
back. It's business
card sized, uv coated, with rounded corners. A great hand out at the
car shows for those
who want to know more about your pride and joy, or pass it out to other
car enthusiasts as

Da Beach is Coming
We have developed a marketing plan
with two phases.
Our first phase is to present designs for car buffs nationwide and our
second phase
is to present designs that are beach related.
Phase 1 has been in existence for the past five years, but more on a
local level.
Now we're planning on taking our products nationwide. The second phase
is planned
to kick off in 2013, so if you're in to surfing, volleyball, tikis,
creatures of the deep blue sea,
and more...keep your eye on our site. We have some fun designs planned
for you beach
buffs as well.

We're always soliciting links to car club websites, so if you would
like us to

and include your
web address and club logo. In return, we ask that you add a link on
your web
site to ours in exchange.
Also
keep in mind, if you need a design for your club or if you're sponsoring
a car show, let us do the design and get the shirts and screen printing
at cost.
